IDANRE HILL (OKE IDANRE)

    Ondo State is Nigeria's chief cocoa-producing state . They produce crops which include:  rice, yams, corn (maize), coffee, taro, cassava (manioc), vegetables, and fruits. Traditional industries include pottery making, cloth weaving, tailoring, carpentry, and blacksmith.

   Aside this the State is known for the possession of IDANRE HILL, which is located in Idanre town in Ondo State of southwestern Nigeria. 

      The hill is well-known for its landscape. Its wide variety on cultural sites as 'Owa's Palace', shrines, The Old Court, Belfry, Agbooogun footprint, thunder water (Omi Apaara) and burial grounds have since brought the location fame and the nation's nomination for the UNESCO WORLD shortlist.

"Ibi Akaso" The Steps

 It is the point of departure where your journey on Idanre hills begins. It refers to the significant steps that lead up the hill. It has about 667 steps, including five resting point.


The King's palace

          Which is Old Palace of one of the most prominent features on Oke Idanre (Idanre Hill). Close to king's throne is a chamber containing cow heads that serve as a type of loyal calender. On the anniversary of the Owa's ascendency to his throne, a cow head is placed in the chamber. 

          At the end of his reign, the number of cow heads are counted and this is used to confirm how many years Owa ruled. That is why we are able to know that we have 25 kings that has ruled in Idanre Land.


Agboogun's Footprint

    It was said to be used in ancient days, whereby anybody accused of being a witchcraft would be ask to put their feet into the footprint. If the footprint did not fit in with the accused person's feet he or she is then confirmed a witch or wizard

  1. Truely Idanre hill has numerous wonders. Why that local govt is called idanre is because of the wonders found in that town. Idanre means wonderful town
