IGOGO FESTIVAL

The IGOGO festival is an annual festival which is celebrated in OWO Town, located in ONDO State. This festival comes up every September to honour Queen Oronsen,a wife to King Rerengejen,who left the palace because her rival ganged up against her,they violated her taboos in her presence.

Her taboos were,no pouring of water before her, someone must not drop log of woods to the ground before her,all of this was done in her presence and this made her to leave the palace.The king sent out his slaves to get her to return to the palace but they were unable to get her because she said she can't go back to the palace again.she ran in to a bush and become a god that makes the Olowo of Owo to celebrate her yearly.

The festival lasts up to seventeen days, where by they celebrate different ceremonies also, like introduction of New yams.

During this period of celebration drums and firing of guns are forbidden only metalongs (Agogo)is allowed to be used instead, this is where IGOGO is derived.

The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye lll and high chiefs of OWO kingdom dress like women with coral beads,beaded gowns and plaited hair.wearing of headgears and caps are forbidden during this festival
